3-card poker II

September 19th, 2008

In a game of 3-card poker, one may opt to play for ante-and-play game. For this, the gamblers place an ante wager before being dealt the cards. On receiving his cards and looking at their rank and value, the player has two options. He may either fold his hand, if the cards are not advantageous, in which situation he has to forfeit his ante bet. If he decides to go on with game, he has the choice of raising his bet size and must wager money equal to the ante bet. This can lead on to three possible outcomes. It may be that the dealer does not qualify, which means he does not have the required hand holding a queen high or better. In such a situation, the dough staked as ante wager is given as even money payout while rest of the pot contributed by raising the bet is returned. However, when the dealer qualifies, to win the player needs to have a better hand which would get him even money on both the ante wager and play bet. The dealer wins the entire pot, consisting of the ante and play bets, when his hand is better than the player’s. In case of a tie, some casinos return the money betted whereas in others, the player is paid out even money.

The payout system in the ante-and-play game when one is playing 3-card poker offers a bonus on the ante bet for those having a good hand which is above and beyond the money played for in course of the game. This bonus is paid regardless of the outcome of the actual game to anyone holding a straight flush, three of a kind or straight. While a straight hand gives 1:1 bonus, the straight flush can pay the highest bonus of 5-to-1 and three of a kind hand is entitled to odds of at least 2-to-1. Varying from one pay table to another in the casino, the house edge ranges from 3.37% to 4.28%.
